Chiang Mai and its immediate surroundings have many fascinating places of interest.
We have arranged some of the most fascinating attractions into various thematic day excursions. These excursions are available on a daily basis, carried out by (mini)van and can easily be combined to arrangements of several days. To suit different interests we have arranged three different tours:

Chiang Mai Explorer 1:

Temples and Markets

Explore the city of beautiful temples and absorb the aromas and colors of authentic Thai markets.

At the Doi Suthep–Doi Pui National Park you will visit Wat Doi Suthep, located in the jungle on 1100 meter height. This is the most famous temple of Northern Thailand. From there you will enjoy an excellent view over the city Chiang Mai and the Ping River Valley. Back in Chiang Mai you will make a stop at Wat Suan Dok, located outside the ancient town walls, where the ashes of the previous royal family members are interred. Afterwards you will visit Kat Luang, Chiang Mai’s large local market located on the Ping River and which provides the city with fresh flowers and vegetables. After a delicious lunch you will visit the famous Wat Chedi Luang and the largest temple of the city – Wat Phra Singh.

Bicycling and River Cruise

Discover the beautiful surroundings of Chiang Mai by bicycle and by boat.

Leaving the resort at around 08.30 hrs you will first cycle along the Ping River. The route then continuous along rural roads through idyllic villages with authentic Thai houses and where curious kids and their parents, of course all with the famous Thai smile, will waive to you. The total cycling distance will be around 30 km  and you will make several stops at places of interest. Drinking water and a snack are included.  After the cycling you will make a relaxing boat trip of roughly two hours on the Ping river. Starting in the heart of Chiang Mai you will sail through the beautiful area in the northern part of Chiang Mai. During the cruise fruits and non-alcoholic drinks will be served.

Chiang Mai Safari and Royal Gardens

Enjoy an adventurous day in the beautiful nature north of Chiang Mai.

From your hotel you’ll drive to the Mae Taman Elephant Camp where you can see how the animals are bathed and further trained for their heavy labor tasks in the jungle. Next you will enjoy an one hour elephant ride, an oxcart ride and bamboo rafting during which you can enjoy the exotic sounds of the Thai jungle. After this fascinating adventure and the lunch you will go to the beautiful Mae Sa valley for a walk in the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens with a large mixture of flora. You will end this day with a visit to an orchid farm.

Mahout Training Course in the Mae Taman Elephant Camp

Mahout Training in Mae Taman Elephant Camp
(3 days / 2 nights)

with overnight stay in a Lisu Hilltribe Village

Experience the life of a mahout (elephant instructor) in his natural surroundings and get acquainted with the unique character of the Thai elephant and the friendly Lisu population in the beautiful environment north of Chiang Mai.

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Taman Elephant Camp – Lisu village
Around 08.00 hrs. transfer from Chiang Mai to Mae Taeng district. After enjoying an elephant show you will get to know the staff, the elephants and their mahouts and get your first lesson. After lunch you have the possibility to take a refreshing bath in the river together with the elephant. Dinner and overnight stay in a nearby located Lisu village. Here you will overnight in simple built bamboo bungalows, provided with a mosquito net, a shower with cold current water and western toilets.

Day 2: Mae Taman Elephant Camp – Lisu village
After breakfast you will actively participate in the show and enjoy an elephant safari of approximately one and a half hour. Next you will first have lunch and then explore the beautiful surroundings together with the villagers. In the evening you have a campfire dinner with traditional dances and music.

Day 3: Mae Taman Elephant Camp – Chiang Mai
After breakfast you will learn how paper is made from elephant dung. Then you learn how to provide first aid to the animals. You make a trip by oxcart and a trip along the river by bamboo raft.  Once you have enjoyed your lunch it’s time to say goodbye to the elephant and his mahout and you will receive a certificate for your achievements.  Next you will return back to Chiang Mai.

 

You will overnight in simple built bamboo bungalows, provided with a mosquito net, a shower with cold current water and western toilets.

Adventurous trekking in North Thailand

Visiting one or more hilltribes is an absolute must! Most of these hilltribes
like the Karen, Akha, Lisu, Lahu. Yao and Meo came from China and Tibet via
Birma and Laos to Thailand. Each tribe has kept its specific manners and customs.

Day 1: Chiang Mai - Lisu village
You will leave from your hotel by pick-up truck. Along the way there is a stop at the Mae Malai local market. Next the journey continues to the waterfall where you can have a refreshing dive. After lunch we travel by pick-up truck to a Shan-village. From here an easy two and a half hour trek through the jungle takes you to a Lisu village. You will have dinner and stay overnight in the village. Accomodation is authentically hilltribe so don’t expect luxuries, but you will enjoy a unique experience.

Day 2: Karen village – Rafting camp
After breakfast you will make a 3-4 hours trek through the jungle. After relaxing in an elephant camp and  lunch, you make a 2 hours elephant ride to the rafting camp. Here you can fish or swim in the river. You will have dinner and stay overnight in the rafting camp, again with simple
accomodation

Day 3: Rafting camp – Lahu village – Chiang Mai
You will make an exciting trip on a bamboo raft on the Mae Tang River to a Lahu village. Along the way there is a stop at a Lahu village where lunch is provided. Our final trip by raft goes to a Shan village from where the pick-up truck drives you back to Chiang Mai.

 

Attention!
-  For joining this trip it is important that you are in good health and have sufficient staying-
power.
-  Sometimes minor modifications in a jungle program are necessary due to weather conditions
or other local circumstances.
- During trekking you will stay in a simple accommodation facility with shared amenities.

We advise you to bring along the following items:
Short and long trousers, shirts with short and long sleeves, backpack, cap, photo camera  and batteriess, a light poncho, walking shoes/sandals with socks, mosquito spray, toilet paper, some pocket money (1,000-2,000 baht), a flashlight and a towel.

On the evening prior to your trekking there will be an information meeting at 18.00 with your trekking guide.

 

Minitrip Mae Hong Son Experience

The picturesque and isolated town of Mae Hong Son is a very peaceful place, set among the mountainous Northern frontier. In the seventies of the last century it only could be reached by muddy rural roads or on the back of an elephant. Today there is a good road running through one of the most beautiful and varied regions in Northern Thailand. Mae Hong Son can also be reached by air as there are several daily flights. In the Mae Hong Son area are several hilltribes living, including the world famous ‘Longnecks” (Giraffe women). The majority of these tribes still live a traditional life. Due to its Burmese temples and situation in the middle of mysterious forested mountains, Mae Hong Son retains a picturesque and immaculate atmosphere. Mae Hong Son has a varied selection of accommodation facilities to offer with among others beautiful riverside resorts.

Day 01: Mae Hong Son – Chiang Mai
Transfer from your hotel in Chiang Mai to the airport for your 30 minutes flight to Mae Hong Son where, after arrival you will be transferred to the Golden Suite Resort. After lunch in Mae Hong Son you will take a city tour where you will visit the local market and 2 Burmese styled temples, idylically located along the Chong Kum Lake. Moreover you will visit the Tham Plaa Forest Park including the animistic "fish cave".

Day 02: Mae Hong Son – Chiang Mai
After breakfast by longtail boat along the pretty Pai River, near the border of Burma, you will visit the “Longnecks” Karen Paduang hill tribe. The women traditionally wear rings around their necks and are therefore also known as ‘giraffe women’. After lunch in Mae Hong Son you fly back to Chiang Mai and you will be brought back to the hotel of your choice in Chiang Mai.

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Chaem – Mae Hong Son (about. 275 km)
In the Doi Inthanon National Park you will visit the beautiful Vachiratharn waterfall. You make a stop at the hill tribe market and  drive to Mae Chaem village located in the valley, before continuing  a mountainous drive to arrive in Mae Hong Son. After lunch you will enjoy the stunning view of the city and the surrounding mountainous landscape. Also the Pha Bong hot springs will be visited. Next you can relax at the beautifully situated 4* hotel The Imperial Tara Mae Hong Son where you will stay the next two nights.

Day 2: Mae Hong Son (about. 60 km)
By longtail boat on the Pai River, near the border of Burma, you will visit the “Longnecks” Karen Paduang hill tribe. These chosen women wear rings around their necks and are therefor also known as ‘giraffe women’. After this visit you drive to the’ fish cave’ where you can feed the blue carps. After lunch the Doi Kong Mu temple, up the hill and built in Burmese style, as well as the idyllic riverside Wat Chong Kham will be visited.

Day 3: Mae Hong Son – Pai – Chiang Mai (about. 280 km)
Via a spectacular mountainous landscape you will arrive at he Tham Lod Caves, one of the largest cave complexes in South East Asia – a river flows through it. After a lunch in Pai, a picturesque village in the midst of rice fields, you will return to Chiang Mai.

Day 01:Chiang Mai – Doi Mae Salong – Chiang Rai (about 240km)
From your hotel in Chiang Mai the tour goes to the caves of Chiang Dao. After enjoying your lunch in Thaton  along the Mea Kok River, you will drive through the Doi Mae Salong Mountain range and will visit an Akha and Yao hill tribe. You will overnights at the Rimkok Resort.

Day 02:Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Chiang Mai (about 280km)
After your breakfast you will visit the Golden Triangle and House of Opium. You will then take a boat trip along the Mekong River. Next, the ride goes to Mae Sai on the border with Myanmar, here in the most northerly point of Thailand, you will visit the Indo-Chinese market. After lunch you visit Rong Khun “Snow Temple” and the hot springs of Mae Kachan.

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Doi Mae Salong – Chiang Rai (240 km)
From your hotel in Chiang Mai the tour goes via the picturesque villages Chiang Dao and Thaton to the Doi Mae Salong Mountain range. After lunch you will visit an Akha or Yao hill tribe, a Chinese settlement and a tea plantation. You will stay for two nights in the beautiful along the Mae Kok River located Rimkok Resort.

Day 2: Doi Tung – Mae Sai – Golden Triangle (150 km)
In the Doi Tung Mountain range you will visit the Royal project with the botanical gardens of the Royal Villa. Next the ride goes to Mae Sai on the border with Myanmar. Here, in the most northerly point of Thailand, you will visit the Indo-Chinese market. After lunch you continue to the Golden Triangle Opium Museum. Next you make a boat trip on the mighty Mekhong River, where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. After a visit to the historic town Chiang Saen you will return to Chiang Rai.

Day 3: Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai (180 km)
After breakfast is the morning free at leisure. You can book an optional three-hour river cruise on the Mae Kok River to Ban Ruammit Karen village, where you can ride elephants and visit the ‘Buddha’ cave. After lunch the ride goes along the beautiful Doi Saket mountain route with a stop at the hot springs in Mae Ka Chan. Finally you will return to Chiang Mai.
